My path to
psychiatry

«For as long as I can remember, I have loved two seemingly opposite worlds: medicine and art. And I would choose it again, time after time.»
I chose to study medicine without setting aside my appreciation for art in all its forms. Years later, during a psychiatry rotation at Hospital Moyano in Buenos Aires —in a ward dedicated to cognitive rehabilitation— I watched art therapy sessions, and it felt as if life were telling me: this is it. Since then, that fascination has never left me. The brain is plastic, complex and still mysterious: science discovers something new about it every day. That is how I ended up uniting my two worlds: psychiatry is science, and it demands constant updating; but practicing it is also an art that requires practice, listening and passion.
I studied medicine at Universidad del Salvador, in Buenos Aires, and did an international clinical rotation at Georgetown University, in Washington D.C.: I saw modern medicine up close and had contact with cutting-edge clinical trials that showed me where the specialty was heading. After more than twenty years abroad, I returned. I completed my Rural Service and then trained as a psychiatry specialist with Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, at the National Institute of Mental Health «Honorio Delgado – Hideyo Noguchi». I learned early that the best way to study something is to explain it to someone else: I was a teaching assistant in Anatomy for five years, taught during my residency and, as a psychiatrist, lectured at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and Universidad Ricardo Palma. In clinical practice, my experience includes the outpatient clinic at Hospital Víctor Larco Herrera and the private practice I run today in Miraflores.
The brain and the body are not separate. That is why I believe in human, science-based and collaborative psychiatry, where you are the protagonist of your own process. My role is to accompany you with up-to-date medical management, working hand in hand with you and coordinating with psychologists, therapists, nutritionists, or other specialists when your care requires it, for a holistic approach to your health.
If you are going through a difficult time, you do not have to face it alone. Let's talk and look together at how I can help you.
